Energy House Party
Host an energy house party! Invite friends, family, and neighbors to your home, and a local energy expert will use your house to demonstrate efficiency concepts and conduct a simple energy assessment. You don’t need to provide anything, just your home (single family homes or residential buildings with one to three units) and a few guests!
What Happens at a House Party?
Once you decide to host an energy house party, we’ll work with you to pick a date and time that works for you. A certified energy analyst will arrive at your home at the scheduled time and talk with you about what areas of your home they’ll need access to, and how long everything should take.
The analyst will work with you to identify some general elements of energy efficiency, as well as any obvious strengths or weaknesses of your home.
Next, your guests will arrive, and the energy analyst will lead everyone through a short energy assessment of your home, using exciting tools like blower doors and infrared cameras to point out areas where your home is losing energy and what kind of projects could help you save money. (Click here to see what type of tests the analyst will run.)
Why host a party?
An energy assessment is a great way to get to know your house, no matter its age. An energy expert will help you understand exactly how your home is saving or losing energy. Often, these assessments cost you money. When you host a house party, it’s free!
Valuable energy report: After the house party, you’ll also get a free written report with the complete results and recommendations of the assessment, from air sealing to high-efficiency appliances to do-it-yourself improvements. You’re under no obligation to make any changes.
Rebates and incentives: The report will include available incentives and rebates to offset the cost of any improvements that you choose to make. Further, the report estimates your anticipated energy and cost savings and how long it will take you to earn back what you spend on the improvements, based on the energy savings you will achieve.
Spread the word on savings: At the end of your house party, your guests will be invited to schedule an energy assessment of their own home or to sign up to host their own house parties. So, you’re not only getting to know your own house, but you’re connecting your friends and neighbors to resources they can use to improve their own homes and lower their energy bills.
Help your community and Green Madison: If that’s not enough, do it for your community! Every house party that we have helps encourage households in Madison to reduce energy consumption through making energy efficiency improvements, which moves our community closer to a $5 million energy prize.
